Regent University Names President

Dr. Carlos Campo

After completing a six-month national search, Regent University's Board of Trustees has named Dr. Carlos Campo as president of the university effective August 1, 2010. Dr. M.G. "Pat" Robertson was also named executive chairman of the board.

Dr. Campo, who currently serves as Regent's vice president of academic affairs, a position he has held since 2008, will become the university's eighth president. He was unanimously appointed by the board on October 31, 2009.

A search committee appointed by the board of trustees reviewed a number of external and internal candidates and unanimously affirmed Dr. Campo's appointment as president. Chairman of the Board Conoly Phillips states, "Dr. Campo is a man of vision, character, and unwavering support for the mission of Regent University, and his love for students is foremost."

"Dr. Campo is an outstanding leader with proven, award-winning experience in higher education," says Dr. Robertson, Regent's founder, chancellor and current president. "His expertise in both traditional and online education, his passion for student success and his enthusiastic commitment to the integration of faith and learning will help Regent University expand its global reach."

Dr. Campo's career in higher education has spanned more than 20 years. He taught English Literature at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and the College of Southern Nevada. Dr. Campo's career progression includes positions as dean of arts and letters, director of academic partnerships, and vice president of academic affairs.

In 2007, Dr. Campo was recognized in southern Nevada as Outstanding Educator and Educator of the Year, and was named Champion of Education by the National Latin Business Association. In 1993, the UNLV Foundation honored his dissertation, Friendship in Arthur Miller, as the Dissertation of the Year.

His most recent publication is on Death of a Salesman, and will appear in The Research Guide to American Literature later this year. Dr. Campo holds a Ph.D. in English from UNLV. He is a founding board member of the Virginia Latino Higher Education Network (VALHEN) and serves on the boards of Virginia Beach Vision, Inc and RENEWANATION.

"My family and I are grateful to Dr. Robertson and the Board of Trustees for their confidence in me and for the opportunity to serve in this role," Dr. Campo says. "Thanks to Dr. Robertson's leadership and the dedication of students, faculty and staff, Regent University has established a solid reputation in a very short time. With our board's direction, Dr. Robertson's continuing vision, and our talented faculty, staff and students, we are poised to meet our strategic goals in the days ahead."
